It’s the holidays and everyone is swamped. Not only is this one of the busiest times of the year at work, but everyone is most likely distracted by things things too. Food, gifts, and visiting the in-laws are only a few things that are potentially distracting - even for the hardest-worker in an eyecare practice.
Medicare has expanded the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction (MPPR) policy and, effective January 1, 2013, will implement cuts to concurrent diagnostic eye services. If more than one test is performed on the same day, the payment for the technical component (TC) of the less expensive service will be reduced by 20 percent. The MPPRs do not apply to professional component (PC) services.
The holiday rush is just around the corner, so I hope you’re not letting it sneak up on you unprepared! And even though an eyecare practice may not have an inventory comparable to a big-box retailer, pulling in the right frames for display to satisfy customer demand is a fine art, especially during the holidays!
Claims, claims, claims; we all know insurance claim filing is never fun. Patient eligibility, claim reports, is it rejected or accepted? It can all get rather overwhelming in an eyecare practice and without something entertaining to get you through a day full of claim filing, the day probably seems to last a lot longer than it should!

And if you don’t work to improve efficiency, use the resources available to you, embrace technology, and listen to your coaches, things might be quick to fall apart!
